Rick Johnson Accomplishes Amazing Feat at 2003 MSBL World Series

By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

It is always fun to reminisce about special feats from the MSBL World Series and their 30 years of hosting the largest adult baseball tournament in the land.  If you have anything special you’d like to convey from your experience in Arizona please let me know at msbllamontia@aol.com.  Below is a truly special story from 2003.

In 2003 Rick Johnson was mentioned in the MSBL Hardball Magazine, where at the age of 47 he had a hitting streak unmatched by any Major League baseball player in history. His feat is documented in the Hardball issue # 51 Holiday edition, page 38.  (See original story below).

He had a streak where he reached base safely 19 at bats in a row which included 15 hits, two hit-batsman and two walks. He also faced 15 different pitchers during this streak which made the streak even that much more improbable.

Ted Williams (yes, that Ted Williams) holds the AL record at 16 at bats in a row and Piggy Ward holds the MLB and NL record at 17 at bats in a row.

Rick is coming to this year’s World Series, his 29th time, this time as a member of the Mid-South Warriors in the 60+ Cactus division.  We'll see you in the dry heat!
