  • Chesapeake Braves Run Undefeated Streak to 71 Games in 35+ Division

By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

The definition of ‘Dominance’ reads, "power and influence over others, supremacy, superiority, command and control.”  Someone needs to write Webster and petition for them to add ‘Chesapeake Braves, 35-over division, Chesapeake MSBL.’

As reported last year, the Chesapeake Braves completed their second straight undefeated regular and post-season in 2016 in the Chesapeake MSBL to bring their amazing streak to 56 games. They have started this year with a 15-0 record going into the 4th of July break, which brings the streak to an unbelievable 71 games! They have scored 226 runs against only 43 in 15 games. In case you don’t have a calculator handy, that is an average game score of 15-3. Ouch!

"It surely has not been easy this year,” stated Braves manager Jeff Wolf. "We have been bit hard by the injury bug which has had us using a different lineup every game. We faced a 3-0 deficit to the Mariners and came back to win 6-3. We faced a 5-1 deficit and came back to win that one as well. Our most recent game, the back end of a double header against a very goodTigers team, came down to us needing to score in the bottom of the seventh tokeep the streak alive. We pushed across one run and won it in extra innings with a walk off, 2-out hit.”

Mick Myers, Andy Welling and Kirk Puepke have been added to this year’s roster and have all contributed greatly. Their solid mound core of Dave Greeley, Mike Bronakoski, Steve Hoffmann, Danny Miller and Bob Engelmeyer continues to give the Braves great outings and keeps them in every game.

"The rest of the teams in our league have improved greatly and we can never take any game for granted,” continued Wolf.  "We know the streak will end sometime, but we continue to play good fundamental baseball and have fun. We never talk about the streak on the field but sometimes after a close game it is mentioned in the parking lot. The best thing about playing with the Braves is the friendships and respect for one another we all have. Everybody on this team does whatever it takes every game whether it is warming up a pitcher, coaching the bases, or chasing down foul balls. We have formed friendships that will last a lifetime, streak or no streak.”
