Fall is busy time for MSBL Regionals

Labor Day means baseball for the MSBL

A total of 11 regional adult baseball tournaments took place over the holiday from September 1-3 making Labor Day by far the busiest of the year for MSBL regional tournaments.

Tournaments ranging from single to multiple age divisions were played from North to South and on both coasts over the long holiday weekend. Most tournaments guaranteed entrants a minimum of three games, and most were wood bat tournaments.

The Eastern U.S. tournaments were held in Albany, N.Y., Baltimore, Md., and Greenville, S.C. The Southern regionals included tournaments in Huntsville, Al., Shreveport, La., Atlanta, Ga., and San Antonio, Texas. The Western U.S. regionals were held in Woodland, CA. near Sacramento and two tournaments in Oregon – Salem and Portland. A 25-and-over tournament in Indianapolis rounded out the field of regionals on Labor Day.

"Regional tournaments are a valuable part of the MSBL experience for many,” said National League President and MSBL Founder Steve Sigler, adding that many of the Labor Day tournaments are used by teams heading to big national tournaments in Arizona and Florida.

A total of 29 MSBL regional tournaments were planned for 2012. Additionally, seven MSBL National tournaments –the World Series, Fall Classic, Desert Classic, Holiday Classic at Disney, Kickoff Classic (Las Vegas), Grapefruit Classic (St. Peters burg, Fla.) and Las Vegas Open are available to players.

Eight regional tournaments are held after Labor Day including five in October.

Most of the late September and October tournaments are concentrated in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic as players in those regions gear up for the annual flights to the Fall Classic.
